Saiful Islam

Doctoral student

Saiful is a doctoral student in the Department of Nutrition at UNC-Chapel Hill’s Gillings School of Global Public Health. He is also a faculty member at the Institute of Nutrition and Food Science at the University of Dhaka in Bangladesh. He holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Nutrition and Food Science from the University of Dhaka, a master’s of science in Implementation and Improvement Science from King’s College London, and a master’s of science in International Nutrition from Cornell University.

His research interests center on food systems, dietary patterns, and cardiometabolic health, with a particular interest in understanding how climate change and related environmental shocks shape food environments, diets, and health. At GFRP, Saiful works with Dr. Lindsey Smith Taillie and is interested in generating evidence that can inform food and nutrition policies, particularly in low- and middle-income countries.

My least liked beverage is… a cappuccino.

Foods I must have in my home are… tropical fruits.
