Amienata Fatajo

2024 FERN Fellow

Amienata Fatajo joined the Global Food Research Program for the 2024 FERN fellowship between her third and fourth years at UNC-Chapel Hill, where she is double-majoring in political science and medical anthropology. Amienata has been involved in advocacy since high school and has worked in nonprofit engagement at both local and international levels with STOPAIDs. Additionally, she is passionate about access to healthy food for marginalized communities and serves as an executive board member of Campus Y, UNC’s social justice hub, where she contributes to the mutual aid working group. As a FERN intern, Amienata is working with Dr. Marissa Hall under the mentorship of Aline D’Campos. Her research focuses on the impact and attitudes related to alcohol consumption, specifically examining front-of-label packaging with explicit warning illustrations highlighting the dangers. This summer, Amienata aims to explore the intersection of health behavior policy and nutrition, bridging the gap in policy implementation. She hopes to develop technical skills that will aid her in working in public health, whether in advocacy or research.
